Ski Après – Winter Warmer

We’re bringing the chalet home. This night was all about that mountain-lodge energy—think fireside warmth, cozy layers, and zero actual skiing required (thank goodness). We wanted to capture that specific “just off the slopes” feeling where the lighting is low and the mood is high.

The Vibe

This night was pure alpine ease. We went for a mix of European chalet tradition and classic American lodge vibes, designed to make staying inside feel like the best part of winter. The goal was a table that felt intimate, unhurried, and just a little bit indulgent. Because let’s be real: life is too short for “standard” dinner, especially in January.

The Setup

We focused on two big moves that changed the entire energy of the room:

Digital Loop Fireside

The "No-Soot" Fire

We used a Youtube fireplace loop and DIY canvas mock brick backdrop to ground the space. It gave us the mountain-lodge feel without the smoky cleanup.

Lighting over Everything

We killed the “big light” completely. Between the flickering candlelight and the soft glow from the “fire,” the room felt like a hidden retreat the second you walked in.

The Table

We anchored the table with a bold red plaid to bring instant energy and warmth. To bring the outdoors in, we layered with candles, pine garland, and wooden chargers. It looked high-end but stayed approachable—exactly how we like it.

The Menu: The Winter Lineup

We skipped the formal courses for a menu that encouraged everyone to lean in and linger.

The Starter: A classic cheese fondue. This is the ultimate crowd-pleaser—we served it with green apples, bread, and salty pretzels.

The Refresh: A crisp Chicken Caesar salad to cut through the richness of the cheese.

The Closer: A DIY S’mores bar. It was a total hosting win to see what everyone came up with when they had free rein over the fillings.

The Bar: Alpine Sips

We kept the drinks self-serve so the host (me) could actually enjoy the party.

Mulled Wine: Garnished with orange rounds and spices, kept warm in a crock pot for easy access (and less work).

Alpine Hot Cocoa Bar

The Classics: Hot Toddies with cinnamon sticks and Alpine Cocoa spiked with a little something extra, topped with whipped cream and mini candy canes.

Dress Code

Giving guests multiple options and inspiration helped. We told everyone to pick a lane: Sporty Skier, Chic Snow Bunny, or Cozy Plaids. It took the pressure off and made the outfits part of the decor. I went with a cozy red look and a fur cap to match the table.
